My name is Sam Barringer. I have been involved with clay my whole life. I grew up in the steep green hills of Northern Vermont at my parents’ pottery, where my early exposure to a life in clay fostered an enduring enthusiasm for pots to this day.

I was fortunate to complete a series of apprenticeships from 2024 to 2026 with Todd Piker at Cornwall Bridge Pottery and Mark Hewitt in Pittsboro, North Carolina, where I further developed my production skills and learned to fire large wood-burning kilns.

I make functional pots that elevate everyday moments around the table. My work is a pastiche of British, American, Japanese, and Korean influences that reflect the craft linneages that I have been trained in.

These traditions insist upon the beauty found in ordinary objects, in the bowl you eat from, the mug you drink coffee out of. The ability good pots have to elevate daily rituals like this is what keeps me making, and I hope that comes across in my work.
