Sam Barringer is a second-generation potter specializing in functional, wood-fired stoneware.

Raised in a pottery family, he developed an early connection to the craft through hands-on experience with clay and kiln work. After a decade-long career in the Vancouver film industry, he returned to ceramics full-time to deepen his practice. Sam is currently apprenticing at Cornwall Bridge Pottery in Connecticut under master potter Todd Piker, focusing on traditional production methods and wood firing. His work centers on timeless, utilitarian forms — bowls, mugs, pitchers — shaped by the dynamic surfaces of flame and ash. Dividing his time between Vancouver and Connecticut, Sam continues to expand his practice through ongoing study, including an upcoming residency in South Korea exploring large-scale traditional forms.
